Description

The goal of sharing life stories is to build connections.

  • For individuals, sharing life stories can build brain power (new brain connections), self-esteem, and connections with others. Because socialization is one of the key elements in well-being throughout life, it is the strengthening of connections with others that is perhaps most important.
  • For activity staff and all personnel who interact with older adults, knowing something of their life stories—including their personal history, preferences, routines, interests, and values—builds stronger relationships (i.e., better connections) with those adults. Studies have proven that staff members provide better care to those with whom they have a strong relationship. (And it helps co-worker relationships, too.)
